Years and courses

Three course bands, one method

WritingForge teaches writing from Year 4 to 10 in three course bands: Years 4-6, Years 7-8 and Years 9-10.

What stays the same, and what changes

In a regular lesson, every band uses the same six phases: four in a 60-minute class and two at home. Across the bands, the reading load, the structure demands, the evidence and the independence increase.

The six phases

Lessons include

Years 4-6

The Water Cycle. Should We Keep Pets in Cages? (persuade). Te Tiriti o Waitangi: A Promise. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Years 7-8

The Science of Sleep. Plastic Pollution and Solutions. Volcanoes of the Pacific Ring of Fire.

Years 9-10

Should Colonially-Acquired Artifacts Be Returned? (persuade). How the Southern Alps Were Built. Should 16-Year-Olds Get the Vote? (persuade). Should NZ Ban Petrol Cars by 2035? (persuade).
