What we do not do, and where student writing goes
This page says what the product will not do, who decides what a student sees, and what we know about where information is held. Where we have not decided something yet, it says so.
What we do not do
There are no fake confidence scores.
There is no AI tutor that chats with the child.
Who decides what a student sees
While students write, and right after the timer ends, they see no scores, margin notes or comments. In regular classes and homework, a teacher reviews the scoring draft and the written feedback, and can edit them, before the student sees them. Students and parents see the report only once the teacher has sent it. Admission assessment reports are reviewed by a teacher, who can edit the report before it is sent to the family.
Where information is held
The application and the database are hosted in Sydney, Australia, on Fly.io and Supabase. Student writing is sent to an external AI provider, on servers outside New Zealand, to generate structure and feedback. We do not sell your information. The privacy policy lists the third-party services that handle some of your family's information.
How long we keep it
We have not yet set how long we keep each type of information. We will publish the periods once they are confirmed. In the meantime, you can ask us what we currently hold about your child.
Your rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you can ask to see the personal information we hold about your child, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Write to hello@writingforge.nz. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand (privacy.org.nz).
